UNITED NATIONS OFFICE ON DRUGS AND CRIME

Topic: Preventing Acts of Terrorism Through the International Criminal Justice System & Diplomatic Means

*Dual Delegate Committee*

Over the last two decades, technological improvements have paved the way for rapid industrialization and the economic growth of member states; however, these same advancements that shaped our world today have exponentially increased the capability for mass destruction for those who attempt to topple existing governments by any means necessary. For too long, innocent civilians have borne the full force of terrorism, with lives used as political bargaining chips by extremists to make their mark on a country's history.

Tragedies such as the 9/11 attacks in the U.S. (2001), the 11/26 attacks in Nepal (2001), and the 11/23 attacks in France (2015) portray the impact of terrorism as tensions tightened with increasing conflict, whilst fear swept citizens, dimming the future for countries and oftentimes democracy.

In the committee of the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, delegates, in partnership with the international court system, will create means of protection for member states and work towards resolutions to prevent potential acts of terrorism in the future.
