NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

NHSMUNC is dedicated to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all delegates regardless of race, color, religion, gender expression, sexual orientation, or disability. In accordance with the Irvine Unified School District Non-Discrimination Policy, we will seek to make all reasonable accommodations for delegates and advisors upon request. We recognize that diversity is integral in cultivating an environment conducive to developing a well-rounded worldview, particularly in Model UN, and therefore encourage all interested delegates to register regardless of their background and experience.

PRE-WRITTEN RESOLUTIONS

One of the cornerstones of Model UN is being able to competitively collaborate with others under time pressure. Thus, following the conventions of UNA-USA / Harvard committee style, NHSMUNC will not allow pre-written resolutions to be brought into committee. Collaboration or substantive discussion between delegates before the first committee session is also strongly discouraged.

Chairs and staff suspecting a delegate of breaking these rules reserve the right to investigate the delegate’s prepared research/materials. If conclusive evidence is found of a pre-written resolution being used in committee, the delegate will be disqualified from all possible awards, and their advisor will be notified.

NHSMUNC AI USAGE POLICY

NHSMUNC, we believe in empowering delegates to think critically, communicate effectively, and grow as independent thinkers and diplomats. We recognize that Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are becoming a part of modern research. However, to preserve the integrity of the MUN experience, the following policy applies:

Permitted Use of AI

  • Delegates may use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Bard, etc.) as a starting point for:

    • Brainstorming ideas

    • Generating background questions

    • Identifying potential research directions or country policy frameworks

Prohibited Use of AI Delegates may not use AI tools for:

  • Writing or editing position papers

  • Drafting opening speeches

  • Creating resolutions, working papers, or crisis notes

  • Submitting any AI-generated content as final work

  • All final submissions must reflect the delegate’s original thought, analysis, and writing.

Why This Matters

MUN is about practicing real-world skills—research, writing, negotiation, and public speaking. AI can help spark ideas, but it should never replace your own voice. Think of it as your brainstorming assistant, not your speechwriter.

Enforcement

  • If AI-generated content is submitted as final work:

    • Delegates may become ineligible for awards

    • Their advisor may be notified

    • In severe cases, the delegate may be removed from the session

The NHSMUNC Secretariat reserves the right to request revisions or reject submissions if AI use is suspected or confirmed.
