G20 SUMMIT

Topic: Africa's Development & Issues Affecting the Global South

Established in 1999 in response to the Asian financial crisis, the Group of Twenty (G20) comprises 19 sovereign countries as well as two regional unions, the European Union and African Union, being made up of a diverse array of perspectives that solidifies its crucial role as a major international body to address pertinent global issues. This year’s G20 Summit focuses on Africa's development and issues affecting the Global South, in particular regarding the growth of an inclusive economy, combating food insecurity, and ensuring sustainable AI development. The enduring scars of colonialism throughout the continent of Africa necessitate a call for change both politically and economically. Delegates should bear in mind both the legal constraints that G20 faces regarding the enforcement of policies, yet the mobilizing potential of this platform to effect change.
