LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES

Topic: Yemeni Civil War

The Yemeni Civil War, ongoing since 2014, is a war between the Yemeni government and the Zaidi Shia rebel group Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthi movement. While currently at a stalemate, the war has severely stagnated the development of Yemen and has yet to result in a peace settlement. Yemen’s instability has obstructed its economic and social development, resulting in economic turmoil and a drastic regression in living standards. The Arab League, the intergovernmental organization of Arab states and observer countries, aims to develop political, economic, and social stability across member states. However, the Yemeni Civil War jeopardizes these goals, leading to numerous humanitarian and economic crises. With thousands dead and millions displaced, the people caught in the middle of conflict are in dire need of assistance. This committee encourages delegates to create unique and viable solutions for tackling the complex political, economic, and social issues faced by Yemeni citizens.
